In another sad event, it appears the bodies of the missing mother and son have been found along Tioga Pass just uphill from one of my more frequented campgrounds.
I’ve seen several different reports in news papers but SF Gate seems to have the most in-depth article. The eastern slope of Tioga Pass can be extremely dangerous for the uninitiated. Though the road is in good repair it’s steep, winding, and frequently has rocks on the roadway. It’s a road that you prepare for at the top and stay alert all the way down. I’ve driven up and down the grade hundreds of times and it still surprises me there aren’t more driver-induced fatalities.
SF Gate: Park rangers found two bodies believed to be a mother and son who went missing last week after leaving Yosemite Village on their way to Las Vegas.
The bodies, believed to be Xiaodong Yuan, 34, of Atlanta, and his mother, Zhaohui Wang, 60, a Chinese national, were found by a U.S. Forest Service employee on Thursday afternoon near their car, on Highway 120 east of Tioga Pass, said Scott Gediman, a Yosemite National Park ranger.
But the Mono County Coroner’s Office had not confirmed whether the bodies were those of the missing tourists and the cause of death was not immediately revealed.

One response to “Bodies found may be missing Yosemite tourists”
The family moved to Atlanta recently to start a new life in America. Their story has been on the news here in ATL. One of the first things they wanted to do was to see Yosemite. They left behind some kids. It’s a very sad story.
