Big Fish Close To Yosemite

Any of the anglers out there up for a little road trip? Check this out.

sgvtribune.com: Trout weighing up to seven pounds will be released into the Kern River this summer.

The Department of Fish and Game will release 1,000 trout weighing between four and seven pounds into the Sierra river. The larger fish are part of an experimental program to have larger fish throughout the state. The 2-year-old fish were reared in the Friant Hatchery.

The DFG selected the Kern because it is within a reasonable distance for millions of anglers. The river has more than 20 miles of roadside access and has a nearby hatchery, which makes the storage of the big fish convenient and reasonable.

The trout are in addition to the Kern’s normal allotment of about 97,000 half-pound-size fish.

The next scheduled plant is Friday.

For those not familiar with the Area the Kern River is south of Yosemite in Sequoia National Park
