Everyone knows I love bears and even though I may do stupid things sometimes, I consider myself to be “above average” on proper bear ettiquette. I’ve always hung food, even when there were no signs advising a need for it, or used bear lockers, cleaned out my car before making sure there was no garbage in the car, and NEVER stored food in the tent.
But sometimes we all need a refresher course. Take a look at the 4 minute (5.7mb) National Park Service video on bears and proper food storage.
There are bear lockers at every campground and most trailheads in Yosemite National Park. Destroying bears is a tragedy for everyone. Put a stop to it. Store your food properly.
Remember. If you see a bear in the Park, no matter what it’s doing, call (209) 372-0322. This gives Rangers a chance to make sure the bear stays safe and enjoys a long and happy life.
