Badger Pass Conditions Update

With the recent snow and the beautiful sunshine we’ve been having over the past few days many people are headed up to the slopes to get in a little skiing before all the fluffy white stuff disappears. Here are the most recent conditions at Badger Pass as taken from the NPS daily bulletin.

Weather: Jan 21 – Feb 11, 2008

High Temp: 58 (2/10)

Low Temp: 3 (1/29)

New Snow: 104”

Total settled snow depth: ~84″

Top of Eagle Lift: ~68”- A-frame

Badger Pass Ski Area: The downhill ski area is 100% open with lifts operating from 9 am to 4 pm daily. The slopes have excellent coverage on groomed runs.

Nordic Trail Conditions: As the above numbers indicate, we received quite a bit of new snow in late January and early February, although the last week has shown nothing but blue skies and warmer temperatures. Sadly, it seems as if this trend will continue for at least another week. Coverage is fantastic on all Nordic trails; all trails are broken, Glacier Point Road is groomed, and stream crossings are stable. Expect a lot of branches, twigs, and needles to be down on the trails.

Conditions are good for those skate skiers out there, especially early in the day. The trails are firm and fast in the morning,
and have been softening up significantly with our warm afternoon temperatures.

Activities: Ranger guided snowshoe walks are offered daily at 10:30 a.m. Meet in front of the A-Frame. Snow shoes are provided; a $5 donation is requested for wear and tear on the snowshoes. The walk is generally two hours long and is moderately strenuous (travel approximately two miles). NO reservations required.

For weather, nordic ski-related questions, or overnight wilderness permits you may call the Badger Pass Ranger Station from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 209-372-0409.
