Ahwahnee Closed Through Friday at Noon

Ok the irony that i posted a shot of the 1996 Happy Isles rock slide this morning for the Morning Shot then today a rock slide occurred behind the Ahwahnee Hotel is just freaky.

The rock slide tossed microwave sized boulders down the side of Royal Arches and forced the evacuation of the Ahwahnee. No injuries and only minor damage to property was reported in the rockfall events. Three vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage due to flying rock. Although no rockfall debris reached the Ahwahnee Hotel all 80 guests of the hotel were evacuated while the hotel and surrounding area were closed as a precaution.

As a precaution the Ahwahnee Hotel will be closed tonight through Friday, August 28th. Guests of the Ahwahnee are being accommodated at other lodging facilities in the park and in surrounding communities.
