Kevin writes in to ask:
“My family was thinking about going to Yosemite in mid April. Is it an okay time to go? I was concerned that I might need chains and that it might be too cold. I know that Tioga Pass and Glacier point road are closed – is there anyway to get to Glacier point during this period by car?”
Actually Kevin, April is a great time to visit the park. The waterfalls usually put on quite a show beginning in late March and ending around June. It’s a “mediterreanean” climate so think warm days, cool nights. Bring warm clothes for the days though, it can get chilly fast for seemingly no reason at all.
Tioga Pass and Glacier Point are closed and normally don’t open until just before Memorial Day weekend in May. Due to the late winter it may be a few weeks late unless we get some unseasonably warm days to speed up the snow melt.
Hope that helps! Have a great trip.
