Yesterday we featured a black and white by Forrest Pangborn as our Photo of the Day. Today’s Morning Shot is an almost identical shot but I like it better. By simply changing the height at which the photo was taken but not moving Forrest kept the same subject matter but brought the rocks lower down into the frame and opened up the water more to capture more of the reflection of Lembert Dome.
So many people will take one or two photos of a subject from the exact same vantage point. Forrest’s photo illustrates that moving a little bit can really change the image and present it a little differently.
The moral of this story is: don’t be afraid to move. Take as many pictures as you want. They’re digital and they don’t cost anything (unlike when I first started as a photographer and worked with slide film). So move around. Try different framings. Keep the same framing but try standing up or sitting down and shooting.
This photo is money, Forrest. Nice job.
