Take the Mist Trail up to the JMT/Mist Trail junction. Go left into Little Yosemite Valley. Go down until the wall on the left shrinks down. Scramble thru and over towrds Lost Lake. Go to the left of it. Continue on then head up thru the trees to the base of Half Dome. Continue left and up. Some challenging scrambles, but you will arrive.
Suggest you print out an aerial photo to help guide you. Yes, this is the same approach that climbers use to get to Snake Dike. Plan on a full day round trip. Long pants will save your skin. Your call if you want to pump water at Lost lake. Might clog your filter.

There is some confusion as to where the Diving Board actually is, some think it is at the top of Half Dome, others think it is at Glacier Point. Here is a google map showing where the diving board is in relation to half dome.

This page describes Ansel Adams reaching it by leaving the Vernal Falls trail near Happy Isles I am assuming, near Grizzly Peak. Which would probably be the most direct route.
