Today’s Photo of the Day is actually a photo of Yesterday’s gone by. Here’s a photo I stumbled across in the Library of Congress of a stage leaving the old Yosemite Village before it was torn down and moved. I’d have to recheck my angles but it looks like the photographer is standing very near where today’s current Yosemite Chapel stands. One of the buildings in the shot is, I believe but I may be mistaken, Best’s Studio, Ansel Adam’s wife Virginia’s parents business.
The date for the photo in the Library of Congress says circa Nov. 13, 1906 but I’m going to be that was a published date. Upper Yosemite Fall has WAAAY too much water to be during November and there’s too many dark greens. I’m going to guess it’s early to mid May around 2ish in the afternoon.
What’s your guess?

Well I was half right. I got an email confirming the location but, Best’s Studio was a little farther down. Here’s the email.
Dear Loyd: Wonderful picture of the “Old Village Store”. The other building is not Best’s Studio, which was located a little further along toward the Sentinel Hotel and bridge. You are right on as to where the photo was taken. You will note that the stage is aligned with the road that passes the chapel. That old road skirted the meadow along the cliffs behind the chapel to stay out of the boggy meadow. Thanks. Michael Adams (son of Ansel and Virginia Adams)
Thanks, Michael.
