On a happy ending to the story, Esmyn (Ssmyn?) Garmendia-Barrios, the missing Honduran hiker, has been found alive and is doing well.
Mariposa Gazette: Missing hiker Esmin Garmendia-Barrios was found alive and responsive today, June 11, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Mr. Garmendia was located by helicopter near Mt. Starr King inside the designated search area, south and east of Washburn Point where he was last seen on June 8.
Garmendia is at the Yosemite Medical Clinic right now, Yosemite spokesperson Kari Cobb said he is alert and communicating. No other information about his medical condition or potential injuries was available.
Almost 200 searchers from Yosemite National Park, the California Conservation Corps (CCC), and Mono, Tuolumne, San Mateo, Marin, Santa Clara, Ventura, Fresno, Contra Costa, Santa Barbara and Sierra Madre Counties, as well as the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit and China Lake Search and Rescue participated in the search Garmendia-Barrios had been missing in Yosemite since June 8 when he became voluntarily separated from the party with which he was traveling.
