  • Smoke Clogging Yosemite Valley – Air Unhealthy

Smoke from the Big Meadow fire is clogging the Valley again and is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. It’s not so bad lower down but there’s a thick layer hanging about. If you have any kind of breathing problems you might want to think twice about heading into the Valley. Visibility is severely impeded as…

  • What’s the Real Story Here?

So yesterday I got 2 emails and 3 twitters about evacutaions in El Portal. Being the responsible, not yelling fire in a crowded theater person I am, I naturally called the National Park Service fire information line. I mean, hey, it was their bar b que. I was told by the person staffing the line…

  • Big Meadow Fire Smoldering?

From the webcam view on Turtleback Dome it doesn’t appear there has been much growth and the fire in fact, looks to be smoldering. Hopefully all the great men and women who came to help fight the fire and the higher humidity overnight have got this monster beat.

  • How the Big Meadow Fire Got It’s Start (video)

Someone on NPS Fire happened to have a video camera the day they were setting the Big Meadow Fire and later efforts to get the fire back under control. Or at least it looks like that’s what’s happening. There’s no time stamp or audio on the video so it’s hard to tell. Pretty cool video…

  • Big Meadow Fire Close to Foresta (map)

The National Park Service put up a map showing the Big Meadow fire’s perimeter. As you can see the fire is part way around Foresta. I’m not sure if this are is still burning or has already burned though.

  • Big Meadow Fire Webcam Timelapse (video)

Last video not dramatic enough for you? Mymotherlode took all the webcam images and put them to a music score. Pretty cool! Photo by Mymotherlode.com.

  • Big Meadow Fire from Turtleback (video)

The fire is visible from almost everywhere in the park. Here a visitor stopped beside turtleback dome and caught some video of the fire on the ridge across the river. This really puts into perspective where the fire is. Video by VaskoTV.

  • Flare up!

Wow the air quality cam is taking some pretty impressive shots of the fire as dawn is starting to break. Click the image for a slightly bigger size. That’s some flare up.
