Who would've known? Not being from California, it wouldn't surprise me that I wouldn't know about this. But we lived in Modesto for a while and I frequented Yosemite while I was there. The view of Half Dome from Patterson (and a few other spots in the valley as you have demonstrated) has risen quite a stir here in Patterson as well.
